Problem Statement
Grace is a busy professionals and animal lover who wants to adopt a pet that suits her new home and lifestyle.
User journey map
Mapping Grace’s user journey revealed how helpful it would be for her to have clear filter to find the suitable pets.
Sitemap
Difficulty with finding the suitable pet was a primary pain point for users, so I focus on the filter/search function when I create a sitemap.
I also added Procedure on the navigation menu so the first-time adopters can understand the process easily.
Paper wireframes
Next, I sketched out paper wireframes for the home page, focusing on the filter functions and the procedure.
I played around different layouts and combined the sessions that I think could work best for a clear and user friendly homepage design.
Digital wireframes
As the initial design phase continued, I made sure to base screen designs on feedback and findings from the user research.

Low-fi prototypes
Using the completed set of digital wireframes, I created a low-fidelity prototype. The primary user flow I connected was the finding pets and arrange a viewing after filling up the form, only necessary information is required.

Usability study
These were the main findings uncovered by the usability study:
01
Favourite
Users prefer to have favourite function on the homepage where they can shortlist the pet right away
02
Wishlist limitation
Users find that having shortlisted only 3 pets is too little as they prefer to view as much pet as possible since they have a busy schedule.

High-fi prototypes
The final high-fidelity prototype presented a clearer user flow of finding and shortlisting the pet.

Impacts
Our target users shared that the design was intuitive to navigate through, searching and filtering for pet they are looking for, and demonstrated a clear visual hierarchy.
Takeaways
I have learned that the design process never stops. While listening to the users’ feedback, I get more ideas in improving the functionality of the app and how to make the whole experience better for the users.
